the fusion project was a commission from NK (The Norwegian Association of Arts and Crafs) to combine art and food in an interactive installation. luihn worked with the design group månelyst and made an installation for the senses at the restaurant østers, oslo.
she designed two different dinner tables with all necessary accessories. the two tables were complete thematic opposites, one organic - giving a sense of nature and calmness, the other technological - with fiber optic in circuits and cutlery formed as dissection tools. they both had integrated speakers with sound images, made by the musicians palace of pleasure.
all elements were either designed or produced by luihn. glasses and plates were produced at gjøvik glassworks. the chiefs at restaurant østers made two menus, one for each table, that corresponded with the themes.
the project was a huge success and generated great interest from public and the media. nrk, the norwegian state channel, made a documentary about fusion that was broadcasted several times.
